Welcome

In 1998 there were only 15 Republicans to the 33 Democrats in the State Senate.  The Oklahoma State Senate was dominated by Democrat control, as it had been since statehood nearly 100 years earlier.  Frustrated with the policies and politics that would leave Oklahoma behind in the 21st Century, Senator Glenn Coffee set out to change the State Senate to a Republican majority where it could become the source of forward looking leadership for Oklahoma.

Senate Republicans wanted to focus on government and economic reforms that would improve our economy in Oklahoma and make businesses and people thrive.  Republicans focused on lawsuit reform, job creation, tax cuts, education funding and increasing our funding to infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

Two years later the Republican caucus grew to 18 Senators.  From 2002 to 2008, the GOP caucus grew by two Republican Senators per election.  This created a tie in 2006 of 24 to 24, and then an historic Republican majority in the Oklahoma Senate in 2008 of 26 Republicans to 22 Democrats.

In just one legislature after taking the majority the Republicans have already accomplished amazing results.  The senate led the way to real lawsuit reform, increased road and bridge funding, improved job incentive programs, and maintained education funding.  It is our commitment to return all Republicans to the State Senate.  We will also work hard to elect new Republicans so that we can build on what we have already done.  Republicans have accomplished so much, including workers compensation reform, government accountability reforms, improved public safety, lawsuit reform, and many other great things but there is much more to be done to give Oklahoma the representation it deserves.
